Shami Kebab

Shami kebab is a popular meat dish in Jammu and Kashmir. It is eaten as a snack or meal with rice or bread made of wheat. Its aromatic flavor and delicious taste makes it a favorite all over. So, whichever North Indian restaurant you go in the world, definitely you can savor these delicious kebabs.


Add the ground meat, 1/2 cup onion, 1/2 cup chana dal, 1/2 inch ginger, roughly chopped garlic, red chillies,1/4 cup of water, dhana, cumin, kali mirch, cinnamon powder, clove, cardamon into a pressure cooker or alike and mix well.
Once the pressure releases after 2-3 whistles cook on a medium heat until the water has evaporated. and set aside to cool.
Once cool, pop the mixture into a fod processor, adding the fresh coriander, mint leaves, green chilli, onion and lemon juice and grind together.
Roll the mixture into small lemon sized balls and flatten.
Beat the egg in a bowl, dip both sides of the flattened balls, then shallow fry until brown on both sides.
Serve with mint raita.
